Introduction

Department of Korea Language and Literature

The Department of Korea Language and Literature is an established department since the founding of the university in 1948, focusing on research and education of academic Korean and Korean literature. Our aim is to create individuals that possess a critical perspective towards the humanities and the methods of literature, to be able to analyze and innovate from language and literature. In the department, professors and students are connected through a sense of common humanity, where they put their skills in action in advancing the humanities by researching in the Korean humanities field.

Curriculum

We provide a systematic, in-depth and holistic research and education environment in the following three majors. The Korean Language major seeks understanding in the phonological, lexical, semantic and grammatical structures of the Korean language. The Classical Korean Literature major looks into Korean Classical poetry and prose, folk literature as well as the ideologies of Korean literature. The Modern Literature major has a targeted focus on modern poetry, modern novel, modern plays and literary criticism.

Future Career Prospects

After graduation, students can find themselves employed as teachers or university professors in the Busan and Gyeongnam province to continually push for progress in the research of Korean language and literature. Beyond education, graduates can find themselves not only in the literary circle and publishing companies but also have chances at landing jobs in multimedia content developing, simulative writing, as well as production writing. We currently have over 650 graduates that are actively participating in the education and academia field, literary circle and publishing circle.

Notice

Students participate in study research groups freely like the Classical Literature Research Society, ‘Kwiseong’ (Homecoming) Literary Society, ‘Baedal-mal’ Research Society and others to forge camaraderie and build a strong foundation for their research in the field of Korean Language and Literature.
